FEAST OF ST. BRIGID
Today we celebrate the Feast of St. Brigid, patron of our diocese. We also celebrate the end of the first Catholic Schools Week in t his country.
Brigid was one of the first people to bring the light of faith to Kildare and the surrounding countryside. She was a woman who gave witness to her faith by her welcome, generosity and care for all with whom she came in contact. Our Catholic schools continue that tradition today. They are places of welcome, hospitality and inclusivity where the light of faith burns brightly and our children are helped to understand what it means to be people of faith.
We give thanks today for the faith and inspiration of St. Brigid and for all the people in our Catholic schools who are beacons of light and faith in our world today.

“You are my Son, the Beloved; my favour rests on you”.
Through his baptism by John the Baptist at the waters of the Jordan, Jesus had a deep experience of being loved and blessed by the father. He heard the words “you are my Son, the Beloved; my favour rests on you”. He was now given his mission to proclaim the Kingdom of God.
Through our baptism, we have all become God’s beloved sons and daughters. God’s favour rests on us and God invites us to walk in the path of life. As we hear in today’s first reading: “Come to the water all you who are thirsty. Come to me: listen and your soul shall live”.
As sisters and brothers of Jesus Christ, we are all called to make his kingdom real on earth here and now by continuing to share God’s life and love with one another.

A Prayer for the New Year
God of this new year, we are walking into mystery. We face the future, not knowing what the days and months will bring to us or how we will respond. Be with us as we journey. Deepen our faith to see all of life through your eyes. Fill us with hope and an abiding trust that you dwell in us amidst all our joys and sorrows. Thank you for the treasure of our faith. Thank you for the gift of being able to rise each day knowing that you are walking through the day with us.
God of this new year, we praise you. Amen.
(Joyce Rupp).

A PRAYER FOR THE HOME
God of mercy and compassion,
You gave your Son a loving home
with Mary and Joseph.
Together they learned to be a family with all the challenges
and rewards that sharing a home can bring.

May their story inspire and give courage to all those
who share a home together.
May we, in our home, always try to be patient with each other.
Help us to love and cherish one another and to be ready
to forgive one another daily.
May our home be a place of welcome for all who come our way.
Amen.
