“REPENT AND BELIEVE THE GOOD NEWS”
Lent is a time to learn to travel light,
To clear the clutter
From our crowded lives and
Find a space, a desert.

Deserts are bleak; no creature comforts,
Only a vast expanse of stillness,
Sharpening awareness of
Ourselves and
God.

Called and Gifted—a new Parish Pastoral Council
Every baptized person is gifted by the Holy Spirit and has a unique part to play in the mission of the Church by using these gifts for the greater good of all. Over the next few weeks we are inviting the parishioners who feel they can share their gifts in the service of the Parish Community to come and reflect on their own faith, its growth and development, by engaging in a four week reflection process. (This process will focus on four aspects of the Christian life: 1) Call to Holiness, 2) Call to Community, 3) Call to Maturity, 4) Call to Mission and Ministry).

Following these four introductory sessions, further training will be offered to those who feel called to commit themselves to drawing up a vision and plan for the future of the Parish in the light of the Gospels, the teaching of the Church, the signs of the times, and the circumstances of the Parish. This will be done in a new Parish Pastoral Council which will be a structure where priests and people will work together as leaders to further build up the spiritual and vibrant community we already have here in Tullow.

“There are a variety of gifts, but the one Spirit”. (1 Cor. 12). Awaken your spirit to adventure and come to these session beginning on Monday March 9th, from 8—9.30 p.m. in the Parish Centre. If you would like to take part, please give your name to the Parish Office by Wednesday March 4th. 9151277.

MESSAGE OF POPE BENEDICT
FOR WORLD DAY OF THE SICK 2009.
“This year we direct our attention particularly to children, the most weak and defenceless creatures, and among these, sick and suffering children. From all of these children arises a silent cry of pain that call out to the conscience of all believers. The Christian community, which cannot remain indifferent to such tragic situations, sees the pressing duty to intervene”.
He underlined the example of Jesus and his compassion for the sick, saying that “All this presupposes a generous and selfless love, a reflection and sign of the merciful love of God who never abandons his children but always provides wonderful resources to the heart and the intelligence to be able to adequately address the difficulties of life”.
The Pope affirmed: “The daily dedication and tireless commitment to the service of sick children is an eloquent testimony of love for human life, particularly for the life of someone who is weak and dependent on others”.
“It is necessary to affirm with vigour the absolute and supreme dignity of every human life”.
“The teaching that the Church proclaims incessantly does not change over time: Life is beautiful and should also be lived in fullness when it is weak and is wrapped in the mystery of suffering”.

“Jesus went to her, took her hand and helped her up”
There are times when we call all relate to Job’s cry in today’s first reading. We have days when we feel weary, heavy and where we find it difficult to keep going.
In the Gospel we see Jesus walking into the lives of those who suffer, breathing new life into them and helping them walk again. The same Lord comes to us when we feel weary and takes us by the hand. He offers to take away all that weighs us down and encourages us to stand upright again and walk freely. As we read in today’s psalm:
“He heals the broken hearted,
He bind up all their wounds.
The Lord raises the lowly”.

FEAST OF ST. BRIGID
Today we celebrate the Feast of St. Brigid, patron of our diocese. We also celebrate the end of the first Catholic Schools Week in t his country.
Brigid was one of the first people to bring the light of faith to Kildare and the surrounding countryside. She was a woman who gave witness to her faith by her welcome, generosity and care for all with whom she came in contact. Our Catholic schools continue that tradition today. They are places of welcome, hospitality and inclusivity where the light of faith burns brightly and our children are helped to understand what it means to be people of faith.
We give thanks today for the faith and inspiration of St. Brigid and for all the people in our Catholic schools who are beacons of light and faith in our world today.
