DAY FOR LIFE 2008—MENTAL HEALTH
Mental ill-health can happen to anyone—1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem at some stage in their life. This year’s Day for life hopes to raise awareness of
the needs of those affected by mental ill-health, their family, friends, carers and the support that the parish community can bring.
Much of Jesus’ earthly ministry was to those who were oppressed by mental illness. He came to bring those living in the margins of society back into the heart of the community.
Through our support we too can bring hope to those who suffer isolation in our community. Offering the hand of friendship is a crucial step towards a person’s recovery.
In the words of Pope Benedict: - “I invite you to pray for those with mental health difficulties:- that they are not placed on the margins, but treated with respect and lovingly supported as they live their life with dignity”.
