Recommendations re
current HSE guidance for
Churches on Swine Flu:
In this present state of H1N1 influenza spread, the HSE advices that
¨ Receiving Holy Communion on the tongue should be
discouraged.
¨ That the chalice should not be shared (i.e. even with
Eucharistic Ministers).

“From the little she had, she has put in everything she possessed, all she had to live on”.

There are different ways of giving, as we are reminded of in today’s readings.
There is the example of the scribes, which is condemned by Jesus.
Their giving is done to attract attention so that they will be noticed and praised by others.
But there is another kind of giving. We see this in the story of the widow in the first reading, who from the goodness of her heart shares her last piece of bread with the prophet. We see it in the Gospel, where the widow humbly offers all she has.
This is the kind of giving that the Lord invited us to: where we give from the heart out of love and generosity.
